Notwithstanding the importance of Qurtuba as the main source of Humanist learning in classic Arab Islam, the Umayyad capital can unquestionably lay claim to the distinction of being an exceptional and active centre of artistic creation. In fact its architecture and manufactures became an essential symbol of the splendor of Islamic art.
